For those of us who spend time on the web over the weekends, consider using at least some of your time to grow in your knowledge of God’s Word and His world. Here’s a brief, curated list of videos and articles that I found helpful this past week. Enjoy!

What is Conservatism?

Kevin DeYoung is helpful as usual. In this article he offers an introduction to conservatism as a political and moral philosophy. Whether you lean conservative or not, I highly recommend you read this one. Much of what passes as conservatism today simply isn't. Many of those who reject conservatism are rejecting a caricature, a straw-man, and not the real thing. As DeYoung writes, "there are good reasons for Christians to know more about conservatism than they do."

Skillet's John Cooper is still asking: What in God's name is happening to Christianity?

I've been a fan of Skillet's music for years. Over the past few years I've grown to respect lead singer John Cooper even more. In this video podcast with Alisa Childers, he shares his concerns about the American church and its weakening confidence in truth. It's long, but there's some great stuff here!

The Reason For Windows

Beautiful article reflecting on the reason for windows and the dangers of leaving them closed. "The idea of lockdowns is to keep our little worlds separated, so that we can’t share the virus. The danger of lockdowns is that it keeps our little worlds separated, so that we can’t share life. If we let them, the lockdowns could shrink our lives down to only ourselves, only our own desires, only our own needs. Please, I beg you, don’t go there."

Does God Still Speak through Dreams? (Part 1)

Part 1 from David Schrock. Rather than asking us to trust our dreams, Schrock invites us to deeper and fuller trust in the sufficiency of Scripture.

Angry With God: Your Pain is Not a Riddle

The first in a series of articles by biblical counselor Brad Hambrick about pain and the temptation to turn pain into anger with God. Hambrick writes: "Pain isn’t a riddle. Pain is an experience to be processed and assimilated. Pain isn’t a question to be answered. Pain is a journey to be traversed and endured. Trying to resolve pain with an answer is like trying to resolve abdomen pain by explaining how an appendectomy works. The explanation may be accurate, but it’s not helpful."

When Fear Is Sinful

We know the Bible tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but did you know that sometimes fear of the Lord is sinful? Michael Reeves helps us understand the difference between the fear that drives us to God and the fear that drives us away from Him.
