Missions Ministry Team
Core Values:
Love (John 13:34, 35) By this the world will know we are Christ’s disciples. Let us love the Lord with all our hearts, all our souls, all our strength and all our minds (Luke 10:27). Let our light shine before men (Matt 5:14, 16) in a dark world.
Commitment to the cause of Christ (Luke 10:3, 9-12, 16). “The kingdom of God has come near you”. We are the salt of the earth (Matt 5:13). We cannot look back and be distracted in our endeavors (Luke 9:62). We must count the cost and see it through (Luke 14:28-33).
Integrity (a character trait valued by Solomon and Job) means conforming the world to Biblical standards (not letting ourselves be conformed to worldly standards). We must “hold fast to our integrity” even in the face of adversity.
Goals: Begin with the end in mind. Revelation (Jesus judging the 7 churches in Asia Minor) reminds us that Christ is watching the churches and He knows our works (see also Luke 12:42-44). Remember the Parable of the Talents (Matt 25:14-30). We must use our resources wisely and advance the Kingdom of Christ. Remember (Matt 10:40) and that we are “ambassadors of Christ” (2Corin 5:20). The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matt 9:37).
Mission Statement:
To fulfill the Great Commission and make Christ known to the world (Matt 28:19)(Mark 16:15, 16). Our mission is to accomplish this on the local, state, national and global level (Acts 1:8). Poquoson Baptist Church will channel the gifts of the Spirit, manifest in the members of the body of Christ, in order to accomplish this purpose. We will pray to the Lord of the harvest that He will send out laborers into His harvest (Matt 9:38). We will pray that as good stewards of the faith, our work in the field will be fruitful (Luke 24:47, 48) and that the minds of the lost and unsaved will be opened to the truth of the Gospel message (Luke 24:45). We will seek to witness to the world for Christ that the lost must repent and be baptized in the name of Christ for the remission of sins so that they too may receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and be introduced into the body of Christ (Acts 2:38, 39). As many as the Lord may call, we will implore them to “be saved from this perverse generation” (Acts 2:40). We will pray that the fear of the Lord may come upon every soul that we reach and that He will have mercy on the broken and contrite hearts that we encounter in the field. We will encourage them to repent and be converted so that their sins may be blotted out (Acts 3:19) and so that they may obtain salvation in our Lord Jesus Christ. We will proclaim boldly to the world that there is “no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12), for there is salvation in no other (John 14:6). We stand fast in the Lord, anxiously awaiting his coming, looking forward to the day when “at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philip 2:10).
